Who are we and what do we do?

The Men’s Shed concept started in Australia around 1999.

It then spread to New Zealand, Ireland, the United Kingdom, Canada and, more recently, the rest of Europe and the USA.

There's now hundreds of Men's Sheds in the United Kingdom,

of which we are one!

We started our 'Shed' around 2016 after identifying a need in our local community.

Members can bring in their own projects or hobbies to work on, or they can make things from our stock of recycled timber for the shed to sell.

Even just sit and chat with like minded people.

We are a very relaxed group of friends!

Sheds are places where anyone can access tools, machinery and workbenches.

Members can improve their own skills, or impart them to others whether it be woodwork, metalwork, model making or any other pass-time that takes your fancy.

The Shed provides opportunities to be creative, learn new skills or make and mend in the company of others.

Our philosophy is to bring health benefits by encouraging physical and mental activity, and improved wellbeing by providing an enjoyable way to stay socially integrated.

Our Shed helps to reduce loneliness and isolation,

but most importantly,

we're having fun whilst doing it.

You may think that, as the name suggests that Men’s Sheds are generally community spaces for men.

However, we welcome women too and indeed we have several women members who regularly take part.

If you think you have a suitable skill or can just give up some time to support us, please feel free to get in contact.

The Hastings & St Leonards Men's Shed is a registered UK charity and is run purely by volunteers. Currently we have four Trustees and a very small number of co-opted Volunteers.
